John Philip Kemble's scrapbook [manuscript], ca. 1787-1840.

Contents: 146 items including newspaper cuttings, playbills, engravings, numerous notes by Kemble taken from a wide variety of books on matters affecting his theatrical productions, 2 poems on Kemble (14 and 141), a note attributed to John Bell describing Kemble's grave in "the vale of Chamonix"(142), four letters (7, 20, 86, 104), and a printed ticket for admission to Kemble's farewell dinner on his retirement from the stage, with no guest's name added, [1817], (107). Includes an epigram "made upon the performance of Lear by...Garrick and Barry," beginning: The town has found out different ways (item 86 verso).

John Philip Kemble (1 February 1757 – 26 February 1823) was a British actor. He was born into a theatrical family as the eldest son of Roger Kemble, actor-manager of a touring troupe. His elder sister Sarah Siddons achieved fame with him on the stage of the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. His other siblings, Charles Kemble, Stephen Kemble, Ann Hatton, and Elizabeth Whitlock, also enjoyed success on the stage.
